Malama Nā Mele - “Preserve the Music”

Malama Nā Mele (meaning “Preserve the Music”) is the first-ever not-for-profit effort of its kind. Its mission is to digitize and preserve the ageless, precious, and completely unique music of Hawai’i.

Malama Nā Mele represents the marriage of love of pure island music and the most modern digital technology. The project at hand refers to the collection and preservation of – with the most artifact-sensitive, state-of-the-art techniques available – the recorded music of Hawai'i.

This exclusive collection includes great recordings by Hawai'ian “giants” of music, including Genoa Keawe, Gabby Pahinui, Palani Vaughan, Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, and many, many others.  The centerpiece acquisition, however, is the private collection of the great Johnny Kameaaloha Almeida, known as “The Dean of Hawai’ian Music.”
